About us

The Steve Morgan Foundation is passionately committed to changing lives for good, by working with partners that make a positive difference to those in need. Founded in 2001 by businessman and philanthropist, Steve Morgan CBE, we provide funding, support, expertise and best practice to the charities and organisations we support. By harnessing the power of working together, we’re proud to have helped hundreds of local charities improve millions of lives across our region.

But the problems we face today are deeper than ever. Despite everyone’s best efforts, too many people still struggle with social disadvantage – poverty, poor health and limited opportunities. As we approach our 25th anniversary, now is the time for meaningful change and a new strategic direction. We are significantly scaling up our philanthropic work by implementing a new, innovative strategy to our funding and grant making to create lasting solutions for our communities.

Our £100m funding pledge

We have pledged £100 million over the next five years (2025 – 2030) to kick-start the next 25 years in the Foundation’s work of changing lives for good.

This £100 million will be focused on tackling the root causes of social disadvantage in our region and will support projects that improve education, expand access to provision and increase employment opportunities. Through collaborating with key strategic partners, providing long-term funding to our associate charities and offering regional grants, our aim is to break the cycle of social disadvantage so everyone has a fair chance at a good life.

We will continue to invest in groundbreaking research into a cure for Type 1 diabetes, a cause that is close to our hearts.

By combining our financial resources with our expertise and energy, we will work strategically and consistently to create lasting regional impact with national influence.

Our new funding FAQs

We understand that the strategic changes we've made to our grant giving approach may raise some questions. Here we hope to answer some of these:

To really tackle the challenge of social disadvantage, we need to change how we work. Our new approach will see us make an even greater investment of £100million over the next five years and help us create lasting solutions for our communities through:
• Fewer but larger grants
• Longer-term commitments to best in class partners
• Focused support for our partners in tackling root causes

Any strategic partner grants, associate charity grants, regional or enable grants that have already been awarded will not be affected by the change in strategy.

For strategic partners and associate charities the grants renewal process will follow our existing renewal process for those grants. For regional grants, providing organisations meet the new criteria, they can apply via our open grants process.

We will not be taking applications for enable grants moving forward. We are currently in the process of exploring collaborative, external partnership opportunities for vulnerable individuals in the future.

We do not have an open application process for our strategic partnerships or associate charities, these are by invite only.

Please visit our regional grants page for further information on the criteria for applying for a regional grant. You can use the eligiblilty checker to see if your organisation is eligible to apply.
