The Paul Lavelle Foundation

“We will always be grateful to the Steve Morgan Foundation for believing in our business plan in the very beginning. They have been an integral part of our journey, from inception when we were just a fledgling organisation of 2 staff and 2 volunteers, to now over doubling in size.”

Charity Development Manager at the Paul Lavelle Foundation

The Steve Morgan Foundation first began working with domestic abuse charity, the Paul Lavelle Foundation, in 2020, when we were able to play an integral role in the creation of its frontline response service for male domestic abuse victims by granting an initial £5,000 from our Covid-19 Response Fund.

Based in Birkenhead, Wirral, and covering the Merseyside and Cheshire region, the Paul Lavelle Foundation offers vital services, including:

  • Support for male victims and survivors of domestic abuse
  • Healthy relationship education to children and young people to help break the cycle of domestic abuse
  • Support for young people aged 11-18 years affected by domestic abuse
  • All-inclusive health and wellbeing activities in the community

We have continued to provide the Paul Lavelle Foundation with funding and support, enabling the charity to transition into a bigger community space. In 2021, we provided a grant of £69,000 over a 2-year period, which was used to deliver a 1:1 therapeutic support service to males impacted by domestic abuse. The grant also contributed towards the running costs of the Community Hub, where the service is delivered, and enabled payment of the part-time salaries for its therapists.

This support helped to address the gap in services for male victims of domestic abuse, who are disproportionately impacted, highly vulnerable and often not listened to. Since providing our initial funding in 2020, the charity’s team has doubled in size, nearly 400 males have been referred into its 1:1 support service, and more than 1,700 1:1 sessions have been delivered.
