Making A ‘Wheel’ Difference

A community transport operator in Shropshire is delighted to have become self-sufficient with the help of funding from the Steve Morgan Foundation.

The North Salop Wheelers have grown from a single bus project to become the transport provider for several villages in North Shropshire.

This has been helped in part by two separate three-year grants from the Steve Morgan Foundation, for a total of £15,000 starting in 2011 and £45,000 in 2016.

The Wheelers were formed back in 2003, and aim to provide affordable, accessible transport to those who need it within the local community.

Reliance on their services has grown in recent years, particularly in some areas of the county where they were once an ‘additional’ scheme to local bus services but have now had to replace that service.

They continue to provide a vital service for the community on so many levels, including building excellent working relationships with parish councils and village schools.
