£455,000 awarded

Teach First is a national charity with a mission to build a fair education for all by training and placing high-calibre teachers and leaders in schools in deprived areas where their skills are most needed.

Following a slow journey making inroads in Merseyside, the charity had been seeking a trusted local partner, to help build up its presence and impact and bring about systematic and sustained change in schools serving disadvantaged areas.

The Steve Morgan Foundation has decided to become involved to help its ‘Cradle to Career’ project as, out of 152 local authorities, Wirral – within the Foundation’s areas of support -was ranked in 152nd place for school attendance.

For the Cradle to Career initiative to have the best chance of success, the Wirral area will need quality teachers and leaders.

The Steve Morgan Foundation is now committed to a three-year programme of a total of £455,000 funding for Teach First, which includes a relaunch event to engage headteachers from across Merseyside, and meeting a shortfall of funding needed to double the number of trainee teachers in the region. Funding will be monitored to ensure progress against pre-determined targets.

We are excited to work together on this project which could mark a step change in education across Merseyside and will unlock the potential in children across the region.
