Our largest capital project to date is our partnership with Maggie’s. Maggie’s centres are for anyone with any kind of cancer and their families and friends, offering practical, emotional and social support that people with cancer need. The Steve Morgan Foundation intends to develop two new Maggie’s Centres for Merseyside and Liverpool, and will invest £4million into the projects.
The first will be a purpose-built permanent centre at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre on the Wirral, replacing the existing temporary Maggie’s Centre that opened in 2014. At Maggie’s people can talk to and get support from a range of professional people. Maggie’s Centres are staffed by cancer support specialists, benefits advisors, nutritionists, therapists and psychologists.
Maggie’s Chief Executive, Laura Lee says: “We are delighted to be working with the Steve Morgan Foundation to create two new Maggie’s Centres for Merseyside and Liverpool. We feel very privileged to have the support of the Steve Morgan Foundation, which is doing so much to improve the lives of so many across the region.”
A second Maggie’s Centre will also be built in the grounds of the New Royal Liverpool Hospital in the centre of the city once the new Clatterbridge Cancer facilities are operational.
