A charity has more than doubled the number of meals it delivers to vulnerable people after receiving ‘lifeline’ funding.
Wishing Well is a health and wellbeing charity for children and older people across South Cheshire.
Before Covid-19 struck activities included day care provision, luncheon clubs, after-school sessions and youth clubs and typically reached 2,000 people a week.
However the coronavirus outbreak and the rules on social distancing left the charity facing a stark choice according to chief executive Charles Maines.
“Any contact with older people was suspended,” he said. “We then took the decision to close our café/bistro and finally stopped our children and family sessions.
“We could have shut up shop completely but when we look at our mission statement it’s to support the vulnerable so we had to stand strong. That’s when the Steve Morgan Foundation came to our rescue.
“We were awarded £26,282 and it was a lifeline.
“It’s by far the most significant funding we’ve had. The support has quite simply allowed us to continue in the immediate future.”
