Buzzing At The Hive

The Steve Morgan Foundation has pledged to make an impact for the young people of the Wirral by investing £75,000 in The Hive, the state-of-the-art Youth Zone situated in Birkenhead.

The Foundation were instrumental in setting up The Way Youth Zone in Wolverhampton whilst Steve Morgan was owner of Wolves Football Club, and that facility has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2016.

The Foundation’s commitment to young people has also been seen by the donation of £75,000 to the Warrington Youth Zone.

A similar boost to the young people from Wirral is now expected as the Wirral Youth Zone looks to improve its offering, with the Foundation also becoming founder patrons of the vital facility.

Jonathan Masters, trustee of the Steve Morgan Foundation, visited The Hive to officially hand over the cheque, which amounts to a three-year grant.

He said: “We were instrumental in the building of The Way Youth Zone in Wolverhampton and have seen first-hand the benefits it is delivering.

“This meant we had no hesitation in pledging our support for this new facility and am sure that The Hive will deliver the same sort of benefits – changing lives and making a difference for the young people who attend and the wider community.”

The Hive has been operating since April, 2017, but this new investment will allow it to step up the activities it lays on for the area’s young people.

It is already one of the busiest youth zones during the day time, delivering an alternative education programme and three employability programmes as well as working in partnership with the Prince’s Trust, Whizz Kids, Sale Sharks and 16 local schools.

It also runs a successful café, working in conjuction with Neo Community Café, and will use this new funding towards improvement sin many different areas.

Chief executive of The Hive, Stuart Barnes, said: “We are enormously grateful for this very generous support from the Steve Morgan Foundation.

“It will be crucial in helping to ensure that we can not only continue to deliver an excellent youth programme in this state-of-the-art facility to the many young people who we already count as members, but can also reach out to many more.

“Like The Hive, the Steve Morgan Foundation is centred on making a difference and their funding will enable us to make a difference to the lives of the young people who come to us, impacting positively on the local community and Wirral as a whole.”

Thanks to Charlotte Graham and The Hive for the photographs from the handover.
